As a gift to his brother Theo, Vincent painted one of his favourite subjects: large, flowering branches set against a blue sky. He painted it to celebrate the birth of his godson Vincent Willem. He had in mind that the work could be hung over the bed of Theo and his wife. As a symbol of young life, Vincent chose the almond tree branches, one of the earliest flowering trees that announce spring. The subject, the sharp outlines, and the placement of the tree in the picture plane is evidence of the inspiration Van Gogh found in Japanese woodblock prints. The Fleurir decorative bolster cushion features Van Goghs almond blossom design. The bolster shape and the soft velvet fabric give this cushion a contemporary and luxurious look. The Fleurir decorative cushion is made from 100% digitally printed polyester velvet with cord piping, with zip at the bottom.
